I Vow To Wear These...

BCBG

I've decided it is about time to go through my wardrobe and eliminate what I am not wearing. As a result, I am vowing to wear these beauties at some point this summer. I cannot bear to rid myself of these raspberry BCBG sandals. I am thinking they would be perfect to spice up a black and white or strictly neutrals outfit. I will wear these shoes. (I said that in my head in a very determined voice.)

When You Carry A Large Purse Or Tote...

I have an affinity for large bags. I like being able to carry many items with me on a daily basis; several lip glosses, hand lotion, my camera, a pair of flip flops, a good book or magazine, my wallet, a notebook and pen. All of these things do not fit in a small purse or clutch, so for every day, I like a large purse or tote. Part of carrying a lot of stuff in a large bag, is having to hunt for a specific item. I am notorious for searching through my bag for whatever it is I need in that moment. I've noticed both my boyfriend and cat tend to look at me and judge while I dig into my bag. I recently came across these...

Josh trying to find his camera in my Steve Madden Tote.

Hank trying to get his black mouse out of his Vera Bradley duffle.

Hopefully now they can sympathize with me next time they watch me digging in my purse.

Miss Annie's Bows

Bows are absolutely one of my weaknesses. I love them on shoes, purses, clothes, jewelry, and especially in my hair! Bows are the perfect girly accessory. One of my sorority sister's recently started a new bow business, Miss Annie's Bows. She hand makes each and every bow, in a variety of sizes, colors, and prints. In the last couple months she went from making cute University of Michigan bows for football games, to making a beautiful and varied assortment. I have purchased several from her and have been really impressed, so I wanted to share them with you!

You can find Miss Annie's Bows on both Facebook (www.facebook.com/pages/Miss-Annies-Bows), and Etsy (www.etsy.com/shop/MissAnniesBows). I encourage you to check out the selection! They are very reasonably priced, normally between $5-$12 and she will send them to you for a minimal additional charge. If you see something you like, or prefer something custom, you can place orders by sending an email to missanniesbows@gmail.com.

Spectacular Spring Scent

I've recently come across a truly great scent, L'Occitane's Pivoine Flora Eau de Toilette. Surprise, surprise it smells like my favorite flower, peonies. It smells fresh, feminine, and not too overpowering. The best part is, it actually smells wonderful all day long, not changing or fading throughout the day.

The packaging says, "There is a Mediterranean legend of a beautiful nymph named Paeonia who was so courted by the gods that a jealous goddess transformed her into a flower with a thousand petals: a peony. Since then this symbol of beauty brightens every spring with its dazzling show of colors and scents. The Pivoine Flora Eau de Toilette captures the subtle aura of the blossoming peony flower, in a generous perfume marked with green freshness." I will be walking around smelling like a peony goddess today!

Mudgie's Authentic Artisan Deli, Corktown, Detroit

This past weekend I had a standing date for lunch at Mudgie's. I was introduced to this popular local spot a couple months ago and was more than impressed. This year they are doing a specialty sandwich inspired by a new state each week. I was really excited to go back this weekend, and it was better than I remember! This place uses local products and makes the most amazing sandwiches, soups, and desserts! Located in Detroit's Corktown neighborhood, Mudgie's may not look like much from the outside, but it is absolutely delightful!

The Fudgie Mudgie arrived at the table, and I literally died and went to heaven in that moment!

Mudgie's is located at 1300 Porter St. Detroit, MI 48226. You can check out their menu online at http://www.mudgiesdeli.com. I highly recommend stopping by and grabbing a fabulous sandwich if you ever find yourself downtown! Fair warning though, it's frequently packed on the weekends but it is worth the wait!

Busy, Busy Bee/Social Butterfly

This past weekend was action packed. I had a lot going on, but it was a blast! I got inducted into the DAR, spent Saturday night at a beautiful cocktail party, and couched it all day yesterday watching hockey while eating take out/nursing a minor hang over.

Sara

The cocktail party Saturday night was at Centaur downtown, we had the second floor to ourselves and open bar with all kinds of fun martinis. I noticed, like myself, all the girls had cute little bags and clutches. I was curious to see what they considered beauty essentials for a night out. While toting such small bags, space is at a premium and you can only cary what is most important. I checked out Shay, Dee, and Sara's beauty must haves for a night out. I noticed they all left bronzers, powders, blushes, and brushes at home. Instead they were armed with lip balm and gloss in varying shades of pinks and reds. While Shay was loyal to one gloss for the night, Dee, like myself had several different shades of lip gloss. Sara was clearly the smartest bringing some hair goodies as well.

Yes, I also made them all hand over their phones. The cases were all too fabulous not to document!

Randi and Dee had some of my fav shoes of the night!

Hank was more interested in my straw than the hockey game.

A Little Sparkle, A Little Edge

Audrey Brooke Sandals and Clutch

I am a big fan of Audrey Brooke. She makes beautiful shoes and purses with great details! I found both these jeweled gator sandals and studded leather clutch at DSW and couldn't resist. I like the girly detail of the jeweled gators, and it's really tempting to name them. I am also attracted to the slightly edgy, studded detail of the simple clutch. The two look great together and give a little sparkle and a little edge to a spring/summer outfit.

Breakfast Love Part 2

One of my favorite things about eggs is that almost anything tastes good in them! You can make a scram or an omelette with nearly anything. Since I've been on a breakfast kick and had all of the ingredients for a lox bagel, I decided to make my own smoked salmon scram. I cut up some red pepper and sauteed it briefly in just a little butter. Then I added some scrabbled eggs. Once the eggs started solidifying, I added some capers, chopped tomatoes, capers, and small torn pieces of smoked salmon. Serve with a bagel or toast and cream cheese. I like to add a little fruit too. It was breakfast perfection!

I Love Breakfast

My love for going out to breakfast has been well documented here, but I also enjoy making breakfast. One of my favs is a toasted everything bagel with cream cheese, lox, sweet onion, capers, and sliced tomatoes. It all tastes amazing together! It gets a little messy trying to eat it, and my boyfriend suggested next time trying mini bagels. We agreed mini bagels would probably be easier to eat, look cute, and be a perfect addition for brunch with friends! I'm going to give it a shot soon and I'll let you know how what happens.

This is what Josh and Hank do while I put together breakfast...

TOMS

TOMS Classics Grosgrain Ribbon in Petal

TOMS, I finally got my first pair! In case you've been under a rock, TOMS is a company that makes shoes and for each pair they sell, they donate a pair to a child in need. Obviously this is a great cause, and I had wanted to get a pair and support them, but I was not a big fan of their original canvas classics. They were kind of an odd shape, and did not look too comfortable or sturdy. When TOMS recently came out with their ballet flats, I thought finally! I went online to buy a pair, and came across these beauties! Somehow the kind of odd shape and lack of comfortable shoe look disappeared in petal pink grosgrain ribbon. I fell in love. To my delight they are just as beautiful in person, very comfortable, and surprisingly flattering with pants/leggings, capris, or skirts. I absolutely recommend them, and if you are not a big fan of the classics, check out their ballet flats! You can find them at www.toms.com or nordstrom.com.

Erin's Guacamole

One of my favorite spring/summer snacks is chips with fresh salsa and guacamole! My sister has always made the best guacamole. I have tried my own variations, but hers always tastes better, so she agreed to share her recipe.

What you need to make guacamole for a few friends, you can play with the proportions depending on how much you want to make and which ingredients you prefer:
1 sweet onion
2 or 3 firm large tomatoes or several cherry tomatoes
4 or 5 avocados that just give to a firm grasp, not too firm, not too squishy (Erin recommends buying firm avocados and waiting for them to ripen.)
1 soft lemon
Just a bit of mayonnaise

Optional:
1 cup of fresh salsa
A couple drops of Tabasco

Cut up as much sweet onion as you prefer, if you like onions I recommend using about half of the onion.

Cut up the tomatoes, removing the central mushy part and seeds. When you use the center of the tomato, the guacamole gets too watery.

Cut your lemon in half.

Then cut up the avocados last. I normally cut them in half, remove the pit, and then cut the avocado halves into strips and let the avocado separate from the skin.

Put the chopped sweet onion and tomatoes into a large mixing bowl. Then add the avocado slices and squeeze half the lemon over the avocado.

Take a small spoon full of mayonnaise and add to the mixture. Resist to use more than a tablespoon.

At this point you can add a little fresh salsa and/or tabasco.

Now use the back of a fork and crush all of these ingredients together. You can use a spatula to mix them together too, just be careful not to over mix it. You want to have some good chunks of avocado to keep the texture and look yummy and fresh.

A word of caution, make sure you serve and eat shortly after you mix, because the guacamole will brown. It's best not to try to save any leftovers since it always tastes much better fresh.

My Latest Obsession

I have always been a lip balm person. I have become especially partial to Burt's Bees' over the years, the plain lip balm in the yellow tube. I have one in several coat pockets, each purse I use regularly, one in my car, and one in my bathroom. I use them constantly. The regular Burt's Bees' lip balm goes on clear, but the more you put on, the more it kind of dulls the soft pink of your lips. I have about 100 (kind of an exaggeration, but not really) tinted lip balms, and none of them have ever been quite right. Until now. The Burt's Bees' tinted lip balm in pink blossom and rose are perfection! They go on smooth just like the original, but they each add just a soft hue to your natural lip color that enhances instead of overwhelms. It doesn't look like you're wearing a strong lip color. My sister, Erin introduced me to these over the weekend and I could not believe I had missed them! Thank you Erin!

Stella's, Traverse City

In the last year my family has fallen in love with Stella's in Traverse City. This restaurant makes everything fresh, so the menu changes daily. They make all of their own cheeses, butcher their own meats, and make all of their own pastas. Stella's purchases foods from local farms, and provide a list of each farm they buy from and what they get from each on the menu. I tend to be a picky eater, but I will try anything from Stella's, it's that good. One of the dishes I ordered this past weekend is called Lardo. Not kidding, that was the name. Once I saw it on the menu, I knew I had to ask what exactly Lardo entailed. It was pig fat. House cured pig fat, shaved thin with rosemary, honey mustard, maple red delicious apples, and toasted pecans. Evan after or server, Stewart gave me the answer, I still decided to give it a shot. I was at Stella's so I knew it would probably be fabulous. I was not disappointed, it was great! However, we all agreed that they should probably change the name. Anything that beautiful and delicious should not have such a sad name. Stella's also has an extensive wine selection, with some fabulous Italian wines. My family decided to celebrate Easter by having dinner there this past weekend, and it was incredible!

Chef's cut for the night was pork, Josh's just happened to look like Michigan.

I got a little excited for dessert since I ordered a Blueberry Crostata (blueberry pie) with caramel and sea salt gelato, so I forgot to take a photo before I devoured it. I did get a photo of the last bite of Josh's Gianduitto Torta (kind of like a piece of chocolate cake), which was amazing!

The photos cannot even do it justice. Stella's Executive Chef/Proprietor, Myles Anton, creates beautiful, sophisticated, and delightful courses. If you find yourself in Traverse City, it is a must for lunch or dinner!

You can call for reservations (231) 929-8989, or find them on the web StellaTC.com.
